The Social Security Boys present a new dimension in the realm of Gospel Music. The vocal style of this trio offers a rich and full blend of harmonies throughout a diverse repertoire which includes a variety of original material. They organized in August 2005 and began recording immediately. Shortly after the release of the album in February 2006, The Solid Gospel Network, which originates in Nashville, Tennessee, began to broadcast the title song "More Alive" across the country. In June 2006, Capitol Enterprises, a radio promoting corporation located in Savannah, Georgia, released the same song and an additional song "May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You", to over eleven hundred stations in the United States and foreign countries.
Lead singer, Vern Sullivan, is recognized as an accomplished singer/songwriter with such hits as "Rainbow Avenue", "Already Ready" and "Healing". Their debut album includes some of his old and new originals. Vern sang popular music on the West Coast in the late sixties and early seventies. In the mid-seventies his goals and objectives changed, and he began to perform and write gospel songs. In 1991 he recorded a Christmas project, "Christmas With You" that received a significant amount of national air play. In some radio markets in California it was the Christmas album of the year. Subsequently, he has recorded four additional solo albums.
Cecil Hinnant, a seasoned tenor and true devotee of Southern Gospel harmony, has sung with The Young Christians Quartet and a recent version of The Rangers Quartet. Charlie Fowler, well known radio personality, describes Cecil as the man who was born with a smile.
Prior to becoming a Social Security Boy, baritone James Austin was a life-long baritone or lead singer with numerous Southern Gospel quartets, most recently with Carolina Royalty Quartet, based in Raleigh, NC. His vocal style and quality blends very well with The Social Security Boys.
